Restored 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible Heads to Raleigh Classic Auction at No Reserve

A fully restored 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible with modern upgrades and full documentation will sell at no reserve.

The Raleigh Classic Car Auctions will present a standout piece of American motoring history at its upcoming September Special: a fully restored 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible, offered without reserve.

Chassis number 0Y73Y169087 shows 34,718 miles indicated (TMU) and represents the second-generation “Square Bird,” a model that redefined the Thunderbird line when Ford expanded the personal luxury car into a four-seater in 1958. While purists lamented the larger proportions, buyers embraced the design, making the 1960 Thunderbird one of the brand’s top sellers of the era.

This particular example underwent a comprehensive, no-expense-spared mechanical restoration between 2022 and 2024, backed by nearly $50,000 in receipts and documentation. Updates include the professional installation of a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system, blending modern drivability with classic style. The car is powered by a 352-cubic-inch FE-Block V8 paired with a three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission.

The convertible is finished with wire wheels, whitewall tires, and the period-correct continental kit, adding to its curb appeal. Comfort and convenience features include power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, and a power-operated convertible top. Inside, the cabin retains its vintage character while incorporating an upgraded Custom Autosound Bluetooth radio designed to resemble a factory unit.

As with many vehicles of this vintage, a few imperfections are noted, including a paint crack along the rocker panel and a small chip on the passenger front fascia. However, the restoration’s scope and documentation make it an exceptional collector-grade offering.

This Thunderbird joins 37 other premium, no-reserve vehicles from three private estates in the September Special. All vehicles are available for inspection at The Raleigh Classic Showroom in Zebulon, North Carolina, ahead of the sale. See it here.
