Rare 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air IV Emerges as Semi-Survivor With Notable Provenance

A 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge equipped with the sought-after Ram Air IV engine has resurfaced in Seattle, offering collectors a rare chance to acquire one of Pontiac’s most desirable muscle cars. The car, finished in metallic green with factory-style yellow Judge striping, shows 54,000 miles and retains most of its original components, placing it among a small fraction of surviving examples with intact drivetrains and largely preserved bodywork.

Pontiac’s Judge package debuted in 1969 as the brand attempted to stake a claim in the growing market for budget-minded performance cars. While the GTO itself remained popular, the Judge package found significantly fewer buyers, with just 6,833 units produced in its first year. Production slipped further as muscle-car sales declined, falling to 3,797 units in 1970 and ending with only 357 built in 1971. Within that already limited pool, Ram Air IV-powered cars were especially scarce. Only 804 GTOs received the Ram Air IV engine for 1970, and just 379 of those were ordered with the Judge package.

This car fits neatly into that narrow slice of production and carries an additional layer of rarity due to its transmission choice. Although four-speed manual cars typically command the most attention, period records show that fewer than 60 Ram Air IV Judge hardtops were built with the three-speed automatic transmission. This example retains that original setup, along with its factory drivetrain and body panels.

The car has been repainted once, but the seller describes it as otherwise original, with rust-free panels and a clean interior. Images depict straight bodywork and a finish that appears well preserved, suggesting the car spent significant time in storage rather than exposed to daily wear.

The asking price reflects its scarcity: the seller is listing the GTO at $129,000 and is open to offers. Comparable Ram Air IV Judges in excellent condition can reach well above $150,000, positioning this example as a noteworthy opportunity for collectors seeking a rare, well-kept slice of Pontiac performance history.
