Heavily Modified 1972 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Super Hugger

A fully restored, pro-touring 1972 Camaro Z28 with a built 406ci V8 and high-end performance upgrades is now for sale.

A stunning 1972 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, known among enthusiasts as a “Super Hugger,” has hit the market as a fully restored, professionally built pro-touring machine. Heavily modified from stock, this second-generation Camaro blends vintage muscle car aesthetics with modern performance engineering, showcasing an extensive list of high-performance upgrades and custom finishes.

This example features a freshly built 406ci small-block V8, paired with a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. A Hughes 3000-stall lock-up torque converter, deep sump transmission pan, and external cooler help manage power delivery, while a Richmond 3.73 rear gear puts the power to the ground via a custom aluminum driveshaft with 1350 U-joints.

Performance hardware is extensive and includes Wilwood drilled and slotted front disc brakes, finned aluminum rear drums, QA1 coilovers, Competition Engineering Slide-A-Link adjustable traction bars, and frame connectors for added chassis rigidity. A Turn One power steering system, chrome sway bar, and Wilwood aluminum hubs round out the suspension and steering upgrades.

Under the hood, the engine bay is a showpiece with polished and chrome components, Hooker Super Comp headers, a Magnaflow custom exhaust, Edelbrock E-Tec 200 aluminum heads, and Air Gap intake topped by a Quick Fuel 750cfm carburetor. Supporting components include a Griffin aluminum radiator, custom dual fan shroud, Dakota Digital fan controller, and Evans waterless coolant for optimal cooling efficiency.

The Camaro’s exterior is finished in a fresh Pearl Orange base coat/clear coat with racing stripes and Z28 badging, sitting on 18-inch Billet Specialties wheels wrapped in BFG G-Force Radials. Inside, a completely reupholstered cabin features black and orange Alcantara seats, door panels, and carpeting, along with Dakota Digital gauges and a programmable shift indicator.

With its combination of classic styling and modern muscle, this nut-and-bolt restored Camaro offers an aggressive yet refined take on one of America’s most beloved pony cars. Whether destined for weekend shows or street duty, it stands as a serious build for any performance-minded collector. See it here.
