2006 Pontiac GTO Coupe Draws Bids as Modern Muscle Icon Returns to Spotlight

A 2006 Pontiac GTO, representing the final year of the model’s modern revival, is attracting growing attention as bidding continues in an online auction based in Runnemede, New Jersey. With six days remaining, the highest bid has reached $7,000, accompanied by steady engagement from nearly 3,000 viewers and multiple bidders.

The 2006 model marks the peak of Pontiac’s short-lived return of the GTO nameplate, which ran from 2004 through 2006. Unlike earlier generations that leaned heavily on retro-inspired styling, the revived GTO embraced a more understated design rooted in the Australian-built Holden Monaro. That approach gave the car a distinct sleeper character, pairing subtle looks with strong performance credentials.

At the core of the vehicle is a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 engine producing 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The same engine was used in contemporary Corvette models, providing the GTO with impressive acceleration capabilities, including a sub-five-second sprint to 60 mph and quarter-mile times in the low 13-second range. In this example, the engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, delivering smooth power to the rear wheels.

The car is finished in Phantom Black Metallic with a black interior accented by red leather upholstery and matching door trim. Exterior details include dual hood scoops, a rear spoiler, and 18-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels. Inside, the GTO is equipped with features such as power-adjustable and heated seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Blaupunkt audio system. A rear seat pass-through adds practicality to the coupe’s design.

This vehicle is offered by Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia and comes with a clean CARFAX report and a Pennsylvania title. The history report indicates prior ownership in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

As expected for a vehicle of its age, the GTO shows some cosmetic wear, including minor paint imperfections and interior aging. Despite this, the model’s limited production run of approximately 40,000 units and its blend of performance and subtle styling continue to make it a compelling option for collectors seeking a modern muscle car with enduring appeal.
