A gorgeous final-year 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible, affectionately nicknamed "Baby-T," is currently rolling across the auction block on Hagerty Marketplace, where the seller's listing and photography, credited to Hagerty Marketplace, highlight a first-generation T-Bird finished in Sun Gold Yellow with a white removable hardtop.
Ford launched the Thunderbird in 1955 as a stylish answer to the Chevrolet Corvette, pitching it less as an outright sports car and more as a “personal car of distinction.” For 1957, the final year of the original two-seat body style, Ford stretched the tail end, added larger fins, and bumped up horsepower, helping the model close out its debut run with more than 53,000 units sold and sales figures that comfortably outpaced the Corvette.
This particular example carries a fun slice of entertainment history. According to the seller, the car once belonged to Ronald Jackson, banjo and guitar player for The Buckaroos on the long-running television variety show Hee Haw. The sale includes a copy of Jackson's book along with photographs documenting the Thunderbird's earlier days under the Las Vegas lights, where it reportedly shuttled a number of notable entertainers.
The seller acquired the car out of Las Vegas and brought it home to New Hampshire in June 2021. Since then it has been treated to a fresh Sun Gold Yellow repaint, a Continental spare tire kit, ceramic-coated exhaust manifolds, an Edelbrock electric fuel pump, and Holley LED headlights, all while retaining its 312ci V8 and Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical freshening reportedly includes new tires, rear springs, front wheel bearings, brake components, a battery, and a heater core, along with a wheel alignment.
Inside, the cabin pairs white vinyl upholstery with black carpeting and engine-turned trim, and the car rides on a set of Coker Classic whitewall tires. A retro-style radio wired to a Kenwood amplifier and speakers adds a driver-friendly touch without disturbing the period-correct look. The car comes with two sets of keys and a clean New Hampshire title.
As of this writing, bidding on the Thunderbird has climbed past $22,500 across 17 bids, with the auction set to close on August 28. For fans of first-generation Thunderbirds, or anyone drawn to a classic with a genuinely entertaining backstory, this Baby-T looks like one worth watching.
