A truly historic piece of modern American muscle car history is now up for sale: the 2002 Pontiac Trans Am Collector’s Edition Pace Car, driven by Jay Leno at the Daytona 500 and signed by both the comedian and NASCAR legend Tony Stewart.
This is Car #1 of only two used for official pace car duties at the 2002 Daytona 500, a race famously won by Ward Burton. With just 9,329 original miles, of which nearly 8,000 were logged by Pontiac’s Motor Division, this Sunfire Yellow Trans Am remains in exceptional condition, having spent most of its life in climate-controlled collections and museums.
A signed air box, verified by Pontiac Historical Services’ Jim Mattison, confirms its authenticity. Both Leno and Stewart added their signatures at the track during race festivities, and the car still wears its original pace car decals and markings from that event.
Powering the car is a 325-horsepower 5.7L Ram Air V8, paired with a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The car features the WS6 performance package, limited-slip differential, traction control, and 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in the original Goodyear F1 tires. Removable T-tops and a complete storage bag add to its collectible appeal.
Inside, the Ebony leather interior is accented with embroidered Firebird headrests, a Monsoon premium sound system, and convenience features like air conditioning, cruise control, and remote keyless entry.
One of only 2,390 Collector’s Edition Trans Ams produced to commemorate the final year of Firebird production, this car stands apart for its Daytona heritage, celebrity provenance, and exceptional preservation.
