One of just 121 built, this matching-numbers Ferrari Daytona Spider could fetch $2.8M at Monterey’s Broad Arrow Auction.
One of the rarest and most desirable Ferraris of the classic era, a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider, is set to cross the block at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Monterey Jet Center sale on August 14, 2025. Estimated at $2.5 million to $2.8 million, this example, chassis 14813, is regarded as one of the finest surviving Daytona Spiders, combining exceptional provenance, factory originality, and a stunning recent restoration.

Only 121 Daytona Spiders were built, with just 96 delivered to the U.S., making this open-top V12 Ferrari a rare opportunity for collectors. Originally finished in the seldom-seen Giallo Dino yellow, the car was delivered new through William F. Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada, before being acquired by its first owner, Dr. Baldhard G. Falk of Belvedere, California. Falk, a German-American businessman and passionate Ferrari enthusiast, retained the car for an extraordinary 31 years, participating in Ferrari Owner’s Club events, including Laguna Seca in 1978.

In true enthusiast fashion, Falk drove the car as intended, even suffering an infamous mishap at Laguna Seca when a wheel detached at speed. Undeterred, he commissioned a full restoration in 1979, refinishing the car in Rosso with tan leather and adding wire wheels. Over three decades of careful ownership saw the car remain in exceptional mechanical health, a point underscored by its continuous service history.

Since 2003, two additional owners have invested heavily in preserving and enhancing the Spider. Its most recent restoration, completed by Don Dickenson, returned the car to an elegant Nero (black) exterior with fresh brightwork, a new convertible top, and a concours-quality interior crafted by Luppi SAS of Modena. The matching-numbers Tipo 251 V12 and Tipo 605 transaxle remain intact, verified by noted Ferrari historian Marcel Massini.

Now showing just 34,360 believed-original miles, the Daytona Spider is offered with its original Cromodora wheels, warranty card, manuals, and period service records. With its rarity, authenticity, and storied history, this Spider is expected to draw intense bidding at Monterey. See it here.
