A 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 R-Code equipped with the sought-after 428 Cobra Jet engine is drawing attention as bidding continues ahead of its scheduled March 3 closing. Listed in North Salt Lake, Utah, the classic muscle car had reached $45,000 with 14 bids and more than 10,000 views at the time of reporting.

The Mach 1 debuted in 1969 as Ford’s primary performance variant, replacing the GT in the refreshed Mustang lineup. Its most formidable offering was the 428 Cobra Jet V8 with Ram Air induction. Factory-rated at 335 horsepower, the big-block engine was widely understood to produce greater output than advertised. This example retains that R-Code designation, confirming its original 428 Cobra Jet configuration, paired with an optional close-ratio four-speed manual transmission.
Chassis number 9F02R196422 indicates assembly at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan, plant and identifies it as a 1969 SportsRoof fastback fitted with the 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air engine. The data plate shows a May 12, 1969 build date and a 3.50:1 rear axle ratio with locking differential.
The car has been refinished in its factory-correct Wimbledon White with a matte-black hood treatment and red and gold side stripes. Exterior features include quad headlamps, hood pins, racing mirrors, a pop-open chrome gas cap and five-spoke chrome wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The Mach 1-exclusive SportsRoof body and competition suspension package add to its period performance appeal.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Dark Red Clarion knit-vinyl with high-back bucket seats, color-matched carpeting and teak woodgrain accents. Equipment includes power steering, a three-spoke woodgrain steering wheel, center console, Philco AM radio, 120-mph speedometer and 8,000-rpm tachometer. The optional Sport Deck rear seat package with hinged fold-down seats and a trunk trap door is also present.

Service records document maintenance and component replacements dating back to 2008, including work on the cooling system, shifter assembly and tachometer. The seller notes minor cosmetic imperfections and aging tires but reports that major lighting, gauges and controls are functional.

Offered from the Hank’s Garage Car Collection, the vehicle is accompanied by service receipts, a Deluxe Marti Report, owner’s manual and a clean Utah title. See it 1969 Mustang Mach 1 R-Code 428 Cobra Jet Draws Bidding in Utah.
