A 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III, known among enthusiasts as the BJ8, is being offered for sale as a disassembled restoration project with extensive factory documentation and major components already sourced. Priced at $15,500, the car presents an opportunity to restore one of the most recognizable British roadsters of the 1960s with its original specifications confirmed.

The car carries VIN H-BJ8-L/30694 and is accompanied by a certified copy of a factory record from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. According to the documentation, the vehicle was built over two days in mid-January 1965 and dispatched to New York in early March of that year. The records confirm it left the factory as a high-compression model equipped with electronic overdrive, a combination sought after by collectors for improved performance and drivability.
Originally finished in Healey Blue over a blue interior, the car retains its original chassis and body tub. The project includes a substantial collection of new aluminum body panels, including fenders, doors, and a trunk lid. These panels provide a lightweight and rust-free starting point for bodywork and paint, reducing one of the most expensive aspects of a full restoration.
The interior is currently dismantled, but major components remain with the car. The original dash frame and gauges are included, and factory records list equipment such as an adjustable steering column and heater. Upholstery and soft trim will require replacement, but the foundational hardware needed to return the car to its original configuration is present.

Mechanically, the factory-correct 2.9-liter inline-six engine is included, identified by its original engine number and confirmed as a high-compression unit. The overdrive transmission is also verified by the factory record. While the engine is out of the car, it is described as built and ready for installation. Additional factory features listed include wire wheels, a laminated windscreen, and Roadspeed tires.
The seller notes that the car is incomplete and will require additional parts beyond those shown in accompanying photos and video. Even so, the combination of verified factory history, desirable specifications, and significant investment in new body panels positions the project as a strong candidate for a correct and high-quality restoration of a classic Austin-Healey roadster.
