Rare, concours-restored 1960 Chevrolet El Camino with V8 power heads to Amelia Auction without reserve.
A rare and extensively restored 1960 Chevrolet El Camino from the Bill Spurling Collection is scheduled to be offered without reserve at the Amelia Auction in 2026, presented by Broad Arrow Auctions. The first-generation car-based pickup carries an estimate of $90,000 to $140,000 and stands out for its factory configuration, uncommon color combination, and long record of concours recognition.

Built during the earliest production wave of dual-purpose car-truck hybrids, the El Camino helped establish a new segment in the American market. While designed for utility, few examples survived decades of use, and even fewer remain in highly optioned, correctly restored condition. This example represents one of those rare survivors, combining original specifications with award-winning presentation.
The El Camino is fitted with the desirable Super Turbo-Fire 348-cubic-inch V8 rated at 250 horsepower. Engine suffix coding confirms compatibility with a two-speed Powerglide transmission and a single four-barrel Carter carburetor, delivering 300 lb-ft of torque. The vehicle carries model designation “1280,” identifying it as a V8-equipped example, and is documented by chassis number 01280J247372 and engine number TI0I6G.

Finished in its original two-tone Cascade Green and Jade Green exterior, the El Camino retains a matching green interior accented by black, white, and green houndstooth seat inserts. Factory options include air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, cruise control, an overhead compass, and a Wonderbar radio, reflecting an unusually high level of equipment for the model.

The El Camino underwent a full restoration commissioned in 2003 by collector William “Tom” Gerrard and completed in late 2004 by Harbor Auto Restoration of Rockledge, Florida. Following completion, the vehicle achieved significant success in national-level judging, earning AACA Junior and Senior National awards along with Grand National First Prizes, including Best Senior Truck at a National Meet in 2005. Additional accolades followed through Vintage Chevrolet Club of America competition, including multiple National First Place Senior Awards and near-perfect scoring at a national meet.

After time in the Carmel, California-based collection of Jackie and Gary Runyon, the El Camino joined the Bill Spurling Collection in 2022. Offered with extensive AACA and VCCA documentation and awards, the vehicle represents a rare opportunity to acquire a first-generation El Camino restored to the highest standards and supported by a well-documented concours pedigree.
