A highly customized 1951 Pontiac Chieftain street rod is drawing attention for its extensive handcrafted modifications, high-performance drivetrain and modern suspension setup, offering a blend of vintage styling and contemporary engineering.

Finished in PPG Snakeskin Green with Vanilla Pure-colored fenders, the Pontiac features dramatic body modifications that transform the original design into a one-of-a-kind custom build. The roof was chopped by 5.5 inches in the front and 7 inches in the rear, while suicide doors, shaved rocker panels, frenched headlights and taillights, and shortened custom bumpers further reshape the vehicle’s profile. Additional custom fabrication includes extended door bottoms, narrowed rear axle dimensions, tubbed wheel wells and a one-piece windshield sourced from a 1950 Oldsmobile.
Power comes from a balanced and blueprinted 454 cubic-inch Chevrolet big-block V8 engine paired with a 700R4 automatic transmission and a 2500-stall torque converter. The engine build includes Eagle steel crankshaft and rods, Keith Black pistons, Crane roller camshaft components and custom headers connected to a polished stainless-steel exhaust system. Supporting components include an Edelbrock intake and carburetor, MSD ignition system, aluminum radiator and dual 14-inch brushless cooling fans.

The custom-built chassis uses a hand-fabricated 2x4 frame combined with Ride Tech air suspension and Art Morrison front suspension components. Mustang II power rack-and-pinion steering and Wilwood disc brakes contribute to the car’s modern driving characteristics, while a 12-bolt Chevrolet rear end with 3.73 Richmond gears and Moser axles handles power delivery.
Inside, the two-seat cabin continues the custom theme with bucket seats, polished stainless trim, classic instrumentation and a fabricated metal center console housing ride height and timing controls. Vintage-style air conditioning controls, a stereo system and hidden trunk-mounted batteries support both comfort and functionality.

Despite its show-quality presentation, the vehicle has accumulated 18,886 miles since completion, underscoring its road-ready nature rather than serving solely as a display piece. The custom Pontiac combines classic American styling with modern engineering, resulting in an award-winning street rod built for both performance and usability. See it here.
