Acura is selling the open-top NSX Roadster Concept that Tony Stark drives in Marvel's The Avengers on Cars & Bids, and the sale is no reserve. Bidding runs through October 31 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. When we checked, the high bid was $98,500 across 16 bids.

The price is not the interesting part. This is a one-off car that Acura's own designers drew for a movie, then kept out of sight for more than a decade.

A Movie Prop Built From a High-Mileage NSX

According to the listing, the roadster was designed by Acura's Advanced Design Studio in Los Angeles and built by Trans FX in Oxnard, California, as a functioning film vehicle for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). The hand-built resin and fiberglass body was developed under the direction of then-Acura Creative Director Dave Marek. It was styled to preview the second-generation NSX Concept that Acura showed at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.

Under the new skin is an ordinary first-generation car: a 1991 NSX with a 3.0-liter DOHC VTEC V6, a five-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive. The listing shows 252,200 miles. The Drive reported the donor had about 252,000 miles when it was converted. The car wears Hot Rod Red paint inspired by Iron Man's armor, a screen-used “STARK 33” plate, aftermarket sport seats, and staggered 18-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels.

The screen time was brief. The Drive put the roadster's appearance in The Avengers at about two seconds. That is a short run for a car this memorable. Acura said at the time that it “was created just for the film,” as Motor Authority reported in April 2012.

Years Out of Sight

After the film, the car largely disappeared from public view. Acura brought it back for the NSX's 35th anniversary and showed it at Monterey Car Week in August 2025, when it said it would take hand-raisers for a charity sale in 2026. Cars & Bids founder Doug DeMuro has reviewed it, and the listing links the video.

What the Winner Actually Gets

This is a collectible, not a car you can drive to dinner. The listing calls it a non-registerable manufacturer prototype that cannot be titled or operated on public roads. It sells as-is on a bill of sale and a separate usage agreement. The car is in Torrance, California, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, a signed photo of Acura's creative director with the car, one key, and two key fobs.

The seller is also upfront about condition. It notes fragile custom bodywork, minor scratches, paint cracking on the C-pillars, interior scuffs, and a warped driver-side door armrest. Prop cars are rarely perfect, and the listing says so.

A Sale With a Charity Twist

The listing says 100 percent of the winning bid goes to a charity chosen by the buyer and seller together. The buyer pays the standard Cars & Bids fee up front, and American Honda reimburses it after the sale. Screen cars with a cause attached have been a theme lately. We covered the Mitsubishi Evo from 2 Fast 2 Furious and the movie car museum collection headed to Bonhams. We also looked at the 25th Anniversary Eleanor Mustang.

Why the Story Wins

A road-going NSX is a respected modern classic, and we have tracked how far they have climbed in pieces like this modified 1992 Acura NSX and a first-year Formula Red 1991 example. This one can't be registered, has a quarter-million miles, and has a body that was built for a camera. What makes it special is the pedigree: it came out of Acura's own design studio, it foreshadowed a new NSX, and Marvel put it on screen.

The auction ends October 31 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Check the Cars & Bids listing for the current bid, photos, and the full description.
