Ford GT Mk II Development Vehicle From 2017 Set for Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction

A rare 2017 Ford GT Mk II development vehicle is heading to the auction block, offering collectors a seldom-seen opportunity to acquire a key piece of Ford Performance history. The car is scheduled to cross the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, Arizona, auction in 2026, where it is expected to draw significant interest given the continued strength of the Ford GT market.

Ford GT models, along with the legendary GT40 that preceded them, have consistently commanded seven-figure prices at auction, reflecting their racing pedigree, limited production, and strong demand among collectors. This particular example stands apart even within that elite group, as it was never intended for public sale and was instead built as an engineering and development vehicle.

Originally produced as a standard 2017 Ford GT, the car was later transformed into a GT Mk II by Ford Performance in collaboration with Multimatic. Only two such development vehicles were created, both of which have resided in the U.S. Ford Heritage Collection. The Mk II program was designed to push the GT platform beyond the constraints of motorsport regulations, resulting in the most extreme and capable version of the modern Ford GT.

The GT Mk II features extensive aerodynamic revisions that dramatically increase performance. A dual-element rear wing, aggressive front splitter, rear diffuser, fender louvers, and dive planes work together to generate roughly 400 percent more downforce than the production GT. These changes reflect the Mk II’s singular focus on track performance without regulatory limitations.

Power is supplied by an upgraded twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 700 horsepower. That output is sent to the rear wheels through a track-calibrated seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The chassis is equipped with five-way adjustable DSSV dampers and advanced hardware including a roof-mounted intake, air-to-air charge cooling, carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, and forged 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport GT racing tires.

This development vehicle will be auctioned alongside a 2017 Ford GT prototype, also from the Ford Heritage Collection. Proceeds from both sales will be directed toward the restoration and preservation of other historically significant vehicles within the collection, adding an additional layer of significance to an already exceptional offering.

As Ford GT values continue to climb, the appearance of this Mk II development car at public auction represents a rare intersection of performance engineering, factory provenance, and collectible automotive history.
