Ford and RTR Vehicles have joined forces to create the first factory-built Mustang RTR — a car designed to deliver pure driving excitement with a turbocharged punch and track-ready balance. Scheduled to go on sale in summer 2026, the 2026 Ford Mustang RTR aims to bridge the gap between accessibility and high-performance capability, marking a milestone for both Ford’s performance lineup and Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s RTR brand.
Built on the Mustang EcoBoost platform, the RTR embraces a lightweight, turbocharged foundation that promises agility over brute force. Its 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine produces 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque in standard form, with an optional Ford Performance Parts tune increasing output to 350 horsepower and 400 pound-feet — all while maintaining the factory warranty.
To enhance handling and drifting potential, engineers pulled key components from the Mustang Dark Horse, including its rear subframe, front and rear sway bars, and adjustable strut mounts. Brembo brakes from the GT Performance Package — six-piston fronts and four-piston rears — ensure stopping power matches performance. The chassis can also be outfitted with MagneRide adaptive dampers and features an optional “Drift/Track” alignment setup available through Ford dealers.
A standout innovation is the inclusion of a Ford-developed anti-lag system adapted from the Le Mans-winning GT race car. This technology keeps the turbocharger spooled between throttle inputs, improving response during drifting and technical driving without resorting to flame-spitting theatrics.
Visually, the 2026 Mustang RTR carries unmistakable RTR cues, including signature grille lighting, 19x9.5-inch wheels with a 30-millimeter offset, and a Tarnish Dark Anodized finish throughout. Optional Hyper Lime accents and Avalanche Gray paint amplify its aggressive stance. Inside, co-branded illuminated sill plates, serialized badging, and unique welcome graphics on the digital display make each example feel distinct.
The Mustang RTR will debut publicly at the Formula Drift season finale in Long Beach, California, on October 17–18. Designed to be approachable, expressive, and thrilling straight from the factory, it represents Ford and RTR’s shared vision — a performance car built not just to race, but to play.
