A rare 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 recently commanded $831,000 at auction, a result that drew attention even before its quiet backstory emerged. The car was originally ordered new by comedian Jerry Seinfeld, yet its celebrity provenance was never disclosed during the sale, making the final price even more striking.
The auction took place on Bring a Trailer and was handled by California-based dealer CabiglioGarage. The dealer acquired the Porsche directly from Seinfeld in 2019 and has previously sold several vehicles from his collection, though this listing made no reference to its original owner. The omission did not appear to dampen bidder enthusiasm.
What immediately set the car apart was its Paint to Sample exterior finished in non-metallic Slate Gray, a shade rarely seen on 964-generation Turbos. The car also retained its original 18-inch Speedline wheels, now fitted with new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Despite being more than three decades old, the Porsche has been driven just 2,500 miles, a figure that strongly influenced its auction performance.
Inside, the car features a well-preserved black leather interior accented with red piping. The specification aligns with the understated but purposeful character of the era’s top-tier 911 models, blending luxury with performance-focused design.
Power comes from a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine producing 355 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. While modern 911 Turbo S models offer nearly double that output, the 964-generation Turbo 3.6 holds a different appeal. Only 754 examples were built, making it significantly rarer than current production models.
The mechanical layout further adds to its desirability. Unlike modern all-wheel-drive Turbos with automated transmissions, this car uses a five-speed manual gearbox and sends power exclusively to the rear wheels. That combination delivers a more analog driving experience, a quality increasingly sought after as performance cars become more digitally managed.
Recent auction results show most 911 Turbo 3.6 models selling between $450,000 and $650,000. Against that backdrop, the $831,000 result places this example among the most expensive ever sold. Only a handful of outliers, including the car used in the 1995 film Bad Boys, which sold for $1.43 million in 2022, have exceeded it.
The sale underscores how rarity, condition, and specification can drive values higher, even without a famous name attached.
