Everyone knows the Daytona. Fewer remember the 365 GTC/4, the four-seat grand tourer that shared its underpinnings with Ferrari's most famous front-engined V12 but never got the same fanfare. A well-presented example finished in blue over tan is heading to Bonhams' Laguna Seca sale on August 13, chassis and engine numbers matching at 15643.
Introduced in 1971 as a replacement for the 365 GT 2+2, the GTC/4 used a shortened Daytona-style platform with the same 4.4-liter Colombo V12, though detuned slightly and moved further back in the chassis for better weight distribution. Unlike the Daytona, it rode on self-leveling rear suspension and offered genuinely usable rear seats, trading a bit of the Daytona's outright drama for everyday livability. Only around 500 were built over a roughly two-year production run, and because it never carried the same cachet, clean examples have historically traded for a fraction of Daytona money.
That value gap has been closing in recent years as collectors rediscover the GTC/4 for exactly what it is: a Pininfarina-styled 2+2 with genuine Ferrari V12 performance and none of the compromises that come with owning a car that draws a crowd everywhere it stops. If you're weighing an honest, original GT like this against something more heavily modified, our Restomod vs. Original: Which Is Right for You? is worth a read before you bid.
This 365 GTC/4 crosses the block at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on August 13. You can view the full lot details and photo gallery over at Bonhams.
