The biggest news for the 1977 Camaro was the re-introduction of the Z/28. It was now its own separate model and not just an option. It was also the first year the Camaro outsold the Mustang for the first time ever!

With the introduction of the Z/28 also came a special 4-barrell 350ci V8 producing 185 hp. Also, hidden wipers became standard for the new year.

The Z/28 had a distinctive trim package including blacked-out grilles, dual sport mirrors, and front and rear spoilers. Both the five-spoke wheels and the bumpers were body colored, and had differentiating decals. Although 185 hp was nothing to brag about, it made up for with an improved suspension.

The RS was once again available for the 1977 model year.

The Type LT (Luxury Touring) continued its popularity with its highest production ever.
