Overview

Styling changed little for the 1969 Chevelle with the exception of new tail lamps. Most notable, however, was the elimination of the SS 396 as a model itself, but could be added to any two-door model Chevelle as a $347 package.

Styling changed little for the 1969 Chevelle with the exception of new tail lamps. Most notable, however, was the elimination of the SS 396 as a model itself, but could be added to any two-door model Chevelle as a $347 package. It could be had with the 325, 350, or 375hp version. Later in the year, reportedly to meet emission standards, the 396 was bored to 402ci, though the official name never changed.

GM released a limited number of COPO Chevelles specially ordered from the factory by specific dealers and a few select private individuals. These came with a 427ci/425hp L72 V8. An estimated 323 COPO Chevelles were produced.

The bottom-of-the-line 300 series was discontinued leaving only the 300 Deluxe and the Malibu as designated series for the line. Well over 300 varieties of Chevelle were available from factory because of various trim packages and options.

The 300 Deluxe was now the entry-level Chevelle and included 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and the Greenbrier Wagon (taken from the recently defunct Corvair line). The Nomad Wagon remained a part of the 300 Deluxe line and offered a stripped down, lower price Chevelle wagon.

The Malibu now contained its usual sport sedan, sport coupe, convertible, and 4-door sedan, but also represented the two Concours station wagon lines.
