Shelby American has unveiled the 2026 Shelby Super Snake R, a ferocious evolution of the Ford Mustang built to bridge street performance and track dominance. Revealed on October 19, the limited-production model channels Shelby’s racing heritage into a new era of extreme power and precision, cementing its status as one of the most potent Mustangs ever produced.
Derived from the 2024 seventh-generation Mustang GT, the Super Snake R houses a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine pushing beyond 830 horsepower. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission, both calibrated for uncompromised performance. Despite its track-oriented setup, the car remains fully street legal, combining brutal acceleration with everyday drivability.
The “R” designation ties the Super Snake to Shelby’s active motorsport program, reflecting lessons learned from its return to factory-backed competition in 2023. Much of its hardware—including aerodynamic refinements, upgraded suspension, and braking systems—draws inspiration from racing prototypes. Adjustable performance suspension, forged aluminum wheels, and Brembo brakes ensure precise control under intense load.
A suite of carbon fiber elements—including the hood, front splitter, side skirts, and rear wing—reduces weight while improving cooling and downforce. Shelby also partnered with Borla to develop a bespoke exhaust system that gives the car its signature, aggressive tone.
Inside, the Super Snake R blends track and luxury cues. Recaro sport seats, carbon fiber trim, and Alcantara accents give the cockpit a motorsport feel, while modern amenities such as SYNC 4, Apple CarPlay, and digital instrumentation maintain comfort and connectivity.
Each example will be hand-built and recorded in the official Shelby Registry. While production numbers remain undisclosed, output will be highly limited, with prices expected to begin around $150,000.
