Mercedes-Benz Reveals All-Electric VLE Luxury Van With First-Class Interior

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new all-electric luxury van designed to bring the experience of high-end custom transport to a wider audience. The newly unveiled VLE combines limousine-level comfort, advanced technology and long-range electric capability in a spacious vehicle aimed at families and executives alike.

The VLE marks the first model built on Mercedes-Benz’s new modular Van Architecture, a platform that allowed engineers to rethink both the exterior proportions and interior layout. The van features a sleek, aerodynamic design rarely associated with vehicles of this size, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.25. Its styling blends elements of a grand touring car with the practicality of a multi-passenger vehicle, highlighted by a gently sloping roofline, distinctive arc-shaped rear lighting and an illuminated grille.

Inside, the VLE focuses heavily on passenger comfort and customization. A large Sky View panoramic roof stretches from the B-pillar to the rear of the vehicle, creating a bright and open cabin environment. Ambient lighting surrounds the interior while the furniture-inspired design and various personalization options allow buyers to tailor the cabin to their preferences.

Mercedes offers several rear seating configurations, with the top-tier option known as the Grand Comfort Seat. This fully electric seat includes integrated headrest cushioning, lumbar and calf support, massage functionality and wireless charging capability. The seats can also be repositioned through a system called Remote Variable Rear Space, which allows occupants to select preset arrangements that prioritize cargo space or extended legroom.

Entertainment technology is another major highlight. An optional MBUX Rear Space Experience features a retractable 31.3-inch panoramic display with an 8K resolution. When activated, the system lowers the screen from the ceiling while seats recline and window shades close, transforming the cabin into a theater-style environment. A Burmester 3D surround sound system with 22 speakers and Dolby Atmos audio supports streaming platforms, gaming controllers and other onboard apps.

The VLE is powered by an 800-volt electrical system paired with a 115 kWh battery pack. Mercedes estimates a driving range of more than 700 kilometers under WLTP testing standards. Fast charging capability allows the van to add approximately 320 kilometers of range in about 15 minutes.

Performance figures are notable for a vehicle that can carry up to eight passengers. The all-wheel-drive VLE 400 4MATIC delivers 305 kW of power and can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds.

Drivers also benefit from advanced assistance systems. A network of cameras, radar sensors and ultrasonic sensors supports semi-autonomous features including adaptive cruising, cooperative steering and automated lane changes. Rear-axle steering helps reduce the turning circle to approximately 35 feet, making the large van easier to maneuver in tight spaces.

The VLE is expected to launch globally beginning with a rear-wheel-drive version called the VLE 300, followed by the all-wheel-drive VLE 400 4MATIC. Pricing has not yet been finalized, though estimates suggest the luxury electric van will start above $80,000.
