Lotus has expanded its sports car lineup with the introduction of the new Emira 420 Sport, a model that raises the performance ceiling for the brand’s celebrated mid-engine coupe while staying true to the driving-focused philosophy that helped define Lotus for decades.

The new variant arrives at a time when Lotus continues to broaden its portfolio with vehicles that reach beyond traditional sports car segments. Despite those changes, the Emira remains the model most closely associated with the company’s heritage, offering a classic two-door layout, internal combustion power and a strong emphasis on driver engagement.
With the arrival of the Emira 420 Sport, Lotus has sharpened those characteristics even further. The latest version is both the most powerful and lightest Emira produced to date, reinforcing its appeal among enthusiasts seeking a more focused driving experience.
At the heart of the vehicle is an AMG-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The powerplant generates 414 horsepower, equivalent to 420 metric horsepower, along with 368 pound-feet of torque. Compared with the standard Emira, the new model gains an additional 14 horsepower and 14 pound-feet of torque.
The performance improvements translate into quicker acceleration and higher top-end capability. Lotus says the Emira 420 Sport can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds while reaching a top speed of 186 mph, figures that place it firmly among the highest-performing models in the Emira range.
For buyers seeking even greater performance benefits, Lotus is offering an optional Lightweight Handling package. The package reduces the vehicle’s weight by more than 55 pounds through a combination of lightweight components and specialized upgrades.
The package also introduces a series of aerodynamic revisions designed to improve airflow and enhance the car’s appearance. Changes include a redesigned front splitter, updated vents and air intakes, extended side sills, a rear lip spoiler and a louvered liftgate. Despite the reduction in weight, Lotus says the modifications maintain the same level of aerodynamic downforce.
Another notable addition is a removable tinted glass roof panel, making the Emira 420 Sport the first model in the lineup to offer the feature. The design recalls one of the most recognizable elements associated with the company’s historic Esprit sports car.
Lotus is already accepting orders for the Emira 420 Sport through its dealer network, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in August. The model will also be offered in North America, where pricing starts at $122,900.
As Lotus continues to evolve its business and product strategy, the Emira 420 Sport serves as a reminder of the brand’s roots. By combining additional power, reduced weight and enhanced driving dynamics, the new flagship Emira aims to deliver the kind of focused sports car experience that has long been associated with the Lotus name.
