Historic Ford GT40 Le Mans Finishers to Reunite at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Three of the most important race cars in endurance racing history will come together again in 2026 when the Ford GT40 trio that swept the podium at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans reunites at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The appearance marks six decades since Ford delivered one of motorsport’s most significant upsets by defeating Ferrari outright at the legendary French endurance race.

At the center of the reunion is the Ford GT40 Mk II P/1046, the car that secured Ford’s first overall victory at Le Mans. The car underwent a comprehensive restoration before being displayed in Ford’s booth at the 2024 SEMA Show, where it drew international attention. Following that restoration, the GT40 earned Restoration of the Year honors at the 2016 International Historic Motoring Awards and later reached a new audience through its release as a Lego Technic model.

In 2026, P/1046 will be joined by the two GT40s that finished directly behind it at Le Mans in 1966, reuniting the first-, second-, and third-place finishers for the first time in a decade. The cars are currently owned by the Miller Family Automobile Foundation and Rob Kaufman of RK Motors, organizations known for preserving historically significant American performance vehicles.

The reunion will serve as a centerpiece of the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s 2026 theme, “The Rivals – Epic Racing Duels.” During the event, all three GT40s are scheduled to make multiple runs up the Goodwood Hill, allowing spectators to see and hear the machines that defined Ford’s dominance during that era.

Following the Festival of Speed, the trio will also appear at the Goodwood Revival, where they will take to the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The appearance is intended to recreate the iconic moment from Le Mans when the three GT40s crossed the finish line together, cementing their place in racing history.

The gathering is particularly notable given how rarely the cars leave the United States, let alone appear together. In the six decades since their famous finish, the trio has reunited only a handful of times. With no future plans announced beyond 2026, the Goodwood events represent a rare opportunity for fans to witness one of motorsport’s most legendary lineups.

The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place in July in West Sussex, England, and is expected to draw significant attention from Ford enthusiasts and racing historians worldwide.
