Hennessey’s final 1,200-horsepower Camaro Resurrection faces Porsche’s track-bred GT3 RS in a rolling-start drag race battle.
Six years after its debut and two years after Chevrolet retired the Camaro, Hennessey Performance’s wildest creation has resurfaced—this time for a straight-line showdown. The tuner’s 1,200-horsepower Camaro ZL1 1LE Resurrection recently faced off against Porsche’s 991.2 GT3 RS in a drag race that pitted brute force against precision engineering.
The Camaro Resurrection is no ordinary ZL1. Originally unveiled at SEMA in 2019, the $200,000 package was limited to just 200 builds and combined Chevrolet’s 1LE performance kit with the LT5 supercharged 6.2-liter V8 from the C7 Corvette ZR1. After additional upgrades—new induction, camshaft, pushrods, valvetrain, and cooling—the engine produced a staggering 1,200 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque. The result? A car capable of 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, a quarter mile in 9.3 seconds, and a top speed exceeding 220 mph.
Facing it across the strip was Porsche’s 991.2 GT3 RS, a track icon that relies on naturally aspirated precision rather than raw muscle. Its 4.0-liter flat-six produces 520 horsepower and revs to 9,000 rpm, paired with a lightning-quick dual-clutch gearbox. Though down on power, the GT3 RS weighs about 700 pounds less than the Camaro and is capable of hitting 60 mph in three seconds flat.
To offset traction issues with the Hennessey, the race began with a rolling start. Even so, hosts noted that putting the Resurrection’s massive power to the pavement remained its biggest challenge, while the Porsche made the most of its balance and grip.
Regardless of outcome, the matchup highlighted two extremes of modern performance: Hennessey’s final, fire-breathing muscle car built to overwhelm physics, and Porsche’s surgically precise track weapon. With the Resurrection now officially out of production, this duel also served as a sendoff to one of the most outrageous Camaros ever built.
