Hagerty’s RADwood UK Revives 80s and 90s Car Culture at Bicester

Hagerty’s RADwood UK celebrated 80s and 90s car culture at Bicester with rare classics, rally runs, music, and retro style.

Bicester Motion was transformed into a vibrant time capsule last weekend as Hagerty hosted RADwood UK, a celebration of 1980s and 90s automotive and pop culture. Hundreds of cars from the era, spanning rare supercars to modified hatchbacks, lined the showground in a colorful display that paid tribute to one of the most eclectic periods in motoring history.

Guests arrived in full RAD spirit, donning period-correct clothing and accessories, while a soundtrack of 80s and 90s hits set the atmosphere. The festival-style event featured a variety of themed displays, trade stands, retro arcade games, and a show-and-shine competition showcasing the individuality and flair of the RAD era.

Star attractions ranged from a Max Power-inspired Vauxhall Corsa and low-rider Mercedes SEC to a Dodge Viper and a Mk1 Volkswagen Golf Camper. Rarer finds included a Talbot Matra Rancho, Mazda RX-7 Convertible, and MG Maestro Turbo—cars seldom seen on the road today. Rally enthusiasts were treated to high-speed demonstration laps as Ralli 22 brought out a fleet of period-correct rally machines, complete with anti-lag crackles and turbocharged theatrics.

The Show and Shine competition highlighted the breadth of the era’s automotive expression. Judges awarded the title of “RADdest Car of the Show” to a BMW 840Ci dressed with period accessories. Other standout winners included a Ford Fiesta Supersport, Honda City Turbo, Saab 900 Turbo, and the Maestro Turbo.

The Hagerty Clubhouse served as a haven for members, featuring an exclusive display with highlights like a Jaguar XJ220, Lotus Carlton, and Porsche 911 Turbo. Members also enjoyed complimentary snacks, a simulator, and shuttle rides in era-correct cars between the clubhouse and showground.

“RADwood is unique in the way it celebrates both the cars and the culture of the 80s and 90s,” said Mark Roper, Managing Director for Hagerty International. “It underscores Hagerty’s dedication to preserving every aspect of car culture.”
