Ford is drawing attention across both the automotive and financial sectors after its Mustang Cobra Jet 2200 claimed the title of fastest electric car, marking a new milestone in high-performance electric vehicle development. The achievement comes as the automaker continues to push its “no boring cars” philosophy into the electric era.
The Cobra Jet 2200 recently completed a quarter-mile run in 6.87 seconds, reaching a top speed of 221 miles per hour. The performance was recorded at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the vehicle surpassed the previous record set by its predecessor, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1800. The new benchmark reinforces Ford’s growing presence in electric motorsports and highlights its focus on innovation beyond traditional road vehicles.
Despite its name, the Cobra Jet 2200 represents a complete redesign rather than a modified version of the earlier model. Engineers developed the vehicle from the ground up with a focus on optimizing how electric power is delivered during drag racing. The result is a machine capable of producing 2,200 horsepower, while also benefiting from a lighter motor that weighs roughly half as much as the one used in the prior generation. The redesigned system not only improves efficiency but also significantly increases output, adding hundreds of horsepower compared to its predecessor.
The record-setting run arrives at a time when Ford’s stock has shown modest movement, with shares ticking higher in recent trading. Market analysts currently maintain a mixed outlook on the company, with a consensus rating reflecting a balance of positive and neutral expectations. Over the past year, Ford’s stock has experienced a notable increase, and projections suggest potential for further gains.
In a separate development, historical connections between Ford and the early inspiration behind Disneyland have also resurfaced. Walt Disney’s visit to Ford’s facilities, including the River Rouge plant, is believed to have influenced elements of theme park design, particularly in the areas of automation and themed environments.
Together, these developments underscore Ford’s continued influence across industries, blending cutting-edge performance achievements with a longstanding cultural footprint.
