Ford Reopens Mustang GTD Applications After Overwhelming Demand

Ford is giving performance enthusiasts another opportunity to secure one of its most exclusive models, announcing that applications for the Mustang GTD will reopen for future production years following overwhelming initial demand.

The Mustang GTD, priced at more than $300,000, stands as the most expensive factory-built Mustang to date. Positioned far above traditional variants like the standard GT and even the high-performance Dark Horse, the GTD represents a significant leap in capability and exclusivity. Designed as a street-legal interpretation of a GT3 race car, the model has drawn strong interest from buyers seeking a track-focused machine with road-going credentials.

Initial demand for the GTD far exceeded expectations. Ford received more than 7,500 applications during the first round, despite plans to build fewer than 2,000 units globally. The first allocation of vehicles has already been claimed, with 231 examples previously reported as sold. While some customers have already taken delivery, many others remain in line as production continues.

With such a large number of applicants competing for a limited number of build slots, thousands of prospective buyers were left without an allocation. In response, Ford has announced that it will reopen the application process for the 2027 through 2029 model years, offering another chance for those who missed out initially.

Details regarding the number of vehicles to be produced in this second phase have not been disclosed, but availability is expected to remain limited. Interested buyers must first register their intent through Ford’s official channels before the application window opens.

Applications are scheduled to officially open on April 17, 2026. Those who register in advance will receive a reminder from the Mustang GTD Concierge team ahead of the application period. Applicants can expect to receive updates on their status later in the summer.

The renewed application process highlights continued demand for the Mustang GTD, reinforcing its position as one of the most sought-after high-performance vehicles in Ford’s lineup.
