Ford Honors Fox Body Legacy with Retro-Inspired 2026 Mustang FX Package

Ford revives Fox Body spirit with new 2026 Mustang FX Package, featuring teal paint, white wheels, and retro styling cues.

Ford Motor Company is taking a bold step into retro territory by unveiling a new FX Package for the 2026 Mustang, paying homage to the beloved—and once divisive—Fox Body era of the iconic pony car.

Spanning model years 1979 to 1993, the Fox Body Mustang carved a distinct chapter in American automotive history. Its angular lines, boxy profile, and resurgence in performance helped define the Mustang's third generation during a period of cultural transformation. Despite its initial departure from the first-generation’s design language, the Fox Body eventually earned its place as a fan favorite, appearing in music videos, film, and the garages of performance enthusiasts.

Now, more than three decades later, Ford is embracing that legacy with a package that resurrects key styling elements from the Reagan-era Mustang—this time, with a modern twist.

Set to debut with the 2026 model year, the Mustang FX Package is a visual tribute, not a mechanical overhaul. Ford says the package “blends vintage styling cues with modern execution,” allowing new Mustang buyers to channel the character of the past without compromising on the technology and performance of today’s platform.

A standout feature is the reintroduction of a bold teal exterior finish—officially dubbed Adriatic Blue Metallic. It’s a striking nod to early ‘90s nostalgia, reminiscent of Miami Vice cool and Charlotte Hornets flair. Buyers can also opt for one of two white wheel designs: a modern 5-spoke style finished in gloss white, or a retro-inspired wheel echoing classic Fox Body aesthetics.

Rear window decals and throwback badging complete the look, and Performance Package-equipped models even get unique grille “nostrils”—a subtle yet deliberate callback to the original era’s aggressive front fascia.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but for longtime Mustang fans and younger buyers craving a retro-modern blend, the FX Package offers a stylish way to connect the past and present.

For Ford, it’s more than a look—it’s a salute to a once-controversial Mustang generation that helped shape the brand’s muscle car legacy.
