First-Ever Carbon Fiber Widebody 1969 Ford Mustang 'Scorched' to Debut at SEMA

Trick Rides unveils “Scorched,” the first carbon fiber widebody 1969 Ford Mustang, with 20 examples planned for production.

A restoration shop known for pushing the limits of muscle car design has unveiled a project unlike any other: the first carbon fiber widebody 1969 Ford Mustang. The build, nicknamed “Scorched,” will make its public debut at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas this November.

Developed by Trick Rides, the car is the product of cutting-edge engineering and modern materials fused with classic American muscle. Using full CAD design and 3D scanning, the shop created a body crafted entirely from pre-preg carbon fiber, a process more common in aerospace and modern supercars than vintage pony cars. Unlike most restomods, Scorched is presented in raw carbon, with no paint to hide the weave of the material.

The project is not a one-off showpiece. Trick Rides confirmed that 20 examples will be built for customers, making the car an ultra-limited production run. Each Mustang will carry the signature widebody design, combining the aggressive lines of the 1969 model year with lightweight panels that reduce weight while increasing rigidity.

Carbon fiber has become increasingly prominent in both factory and aftermarket builds. Ford itself leaned into the trend with the upcoming Mustang GTD, which features extensive use of the composite. Smaller automakers, including AC Cars, have also embraced the material for modern interpretations of classics. However, Trick Rides’ approach of reimagining a late-1960s Mustang entirely in carbon fiber marks a first for the segment.

With its official debut set for SEMA, Scorched is poised to attract attention not only from enthusiasts of classic muscle cars but also from fans of advanced composites. By blending vintage styling with aerospace-grade engineering, the project redefines what a restomod can be.
