Corvette ZR1 Sets Blistering New Production Car Record at Canada’s Fastest Circuit

Chevrolet’s newest Corvette ZR1 has rewritten the record books again, this time in Canada, where the 1,064-horsepower supercar demolished the existing production car lap record at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The achievement continues a streak of dominant performances from a car already known for outperforming machines costing significantly more.

The record attempt took place at the famed 10-corner, 2.459-mile circuit once known as Mosport, a track celebrated for its speed and the physical demands it places on drivers and cars alike. The previous production car benchmark, a 1:22.12 lap set in 2023, belonged to the current Corvette Z06 with Canadian racer Ron Fellows behind the wheel. In a fitting continuation, Fellows returned to the same circuit for Chevrolet’s latest effort—this time piloting the far more powerful ZR1.

According to Chevrolet Canada’s documentation, Fellows began turning competitive laps almost immediately. Within seven laps, he had already undercut the existing record by nearly two seconds. But conditions, confidence and the ZR1’s capability left room for more. With sustained cornering loads exceeding 1.5 lateral g and a peak of 178 mph on the back straight, the team pushed for a final clean lap.

The result was a remarkable 1:18.22—an improvement of 3.9 seconds over the Z06’s time and a benchmark that places the ZR1 among the fastest production cars to ever lap the Ontario circuit. For context, during previous performance testing at CTMP, Cadillac’s CT5-V Blackwing reached roughly 155 mph on the same section of track, underlining just how much speed the ZR1 carried.

The accomplishment adds to a growing list of records the latest Corvette has set this year, reinforcing Chevrolet’s continued push into supercar territory at a price far below its European rivals. With the ZR1’s dominance showing no signs of slowing, fans are now eager to see where Chevrolet will send its flagship next—and what lap time it could topple there.
