Chevy Blazer EV Faces Mopar Muscle at Las Vegas Strip, and Stumbles

An all-electric Blazer SS went head-to-head with Dodge’s supercharged V8s, but the night didn’t go as planned.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV SS, GM’s 557-horsepower electric crossover, found itself in the spotlight at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Pitted against Dodge’s supercharged heavyweights—a Durango SRT Hellcat and later a Charger Hellcat—the matchup was billed as another chapter in the ongoing EV-versus-ICE debate.

On paper, the contest seemed intriguing. The Blazer EV SS boasts dual-motor all-wheel drive and instant torque, while the Durango Hellcat brings 710 horsepower from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, all wrapped in a three-row SUV body. But drag racing often exposes more than spec sheets, and that’s exactly what unfolded.

According to footage posted on the Wheels YouTube channel, the Blazer stumbled out of the gate. Instead of showcasing its electric edge with a blistering launch, the crossover appeared to bog down, giving the Durango a clean getaway. The result was decisive: the Mopar roared across the finish line well ahead of the Blazer.

The misfortune didn’t end there. A second matchup saw the Blazer line up against a Charger Hellcat, another supercharged Dodge icon. Again, the electric Chevy faltered, failing to capitalize on its torque advantage and falling short against the HEMI-powered muscle car.

The outcome underscores both the promise and pitfalls of EVs at the drag strip. While electric vehicles are capable of jaw-dropping acceleration, their performance is highly dependent on driver skill, launch settings, and sometimes even unpredictable electronics. Internal combustion cars, by contrast, often benefit from decades of refinement and familiarity.

For Chevrolet, the night was a reminder that raw power doesn’t always translate to wins—especially against Mopar’s proven drag-strip warriors.
