Chevrolet is preparing to phase out the Corvette E-Ray and replace it with a new hybrid performance model, the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X, marking a significant shift in the brand’s electrified sports car strategy.
A spokesperson for General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly Plant confirmed the transition, noting that production of the E-Ray will conclude after the 2026 model year. The E-Ray, introduced in 2023, represented a major milestone for Corvette as the first hybrid and all-wheel-drive variant in the model’s history.
Its successor, the Grand Sport X, will continue with a hybrid all-wheel-drive layout but aims to push performance further. The new model combines a V8 engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 721 horsepower. That figure represents a notable increase over the E-Ray’s 655 horsepower, signaling Chevrolet’s intent to elevate both power and capability in its next-generation offering.
In addition to higher output, the Grand Sport X introduces improvements to battery placement and performance. The battery is positioned low and centrally within the chassis to maintain the balance and agility expected from the mid-engine Corvette platform. Engineers have also focused on giving drivers greater control over how power is deployed, with selectable modes designed for sustained driving, maximum performance, or short bursts of acceleration.
The vehicle also retains the ability to operate quietly under electric power alone. A stealth mode allows operation without engaging the gasoline engine at speeds up to 50 mph, while a separate low-speed setting enables silent maneuvering at reduced speeds.
The Grand Sport X is part of a broader update to the Corvette lineup, which will also include a revised Stingray model. Production of the new lineup is scheduled to begin in summer 2026 at the Bowling Green facility, using a mix of domestic and globally sourced components.
With an expected starting price around $100,000, the Grand Sport X is positioned to carry forward the electrified performance concept introduced by the E-Ray while offering increased power and expanded capabilities for drivers seeking both everyday usability and track-ready performance.
