AC Cobra GT Coupe Debuts With Ford 5.0-Liter V8 Power and Modern Grand Touring Focus

AC Cars has officially revealed the production version of its highly anticipated Cobra GT Coupe, bringing a modern interpretation of one of the automotive world's most recognizable sports cars to market. The new model combines classic design influences with contemporary engineering and Ford-sourced V8 power, marking the latest chapter in the storied Cobra legacy.

The debut follows AC Cars' announcement in late 2022 that it would revive the Cobra nameplate for a new generation of enthusiasts. The company later confirmed that the reborn models would feature Ford powertrains and be built in Sweden for distribution across multiple global markets. With the production-spec Cobra GT Coupe now unveiled, enthusiasts are getting their clearest look yet at how the legendary sports car has been adapted for modern drivers.

Visually, the Cobra GT Coupe maintains strong ties to its heritage while embracing updated proportions and contemporary styling cues. The model shares approximately 75 percent of its engineering with the AC Cobra GT Roadster, creating a family of vehicles that blend traditional character with modern performance capabilities.

Power comes from Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, which serves as the centerpiece of the new coupe. In its highest-output configuration, the powerplant produces up to 720 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque. That performance allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Buyers will have the option of pairing the engine with either a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic.

The Cobra GT Coupe rides on AC Cars’ proprietary extruded aluminum space-frame chassis and features lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork. While performance remains a major focus, the company has positioned the new model as more of a grand touring machine than a dedicated track-focused sports car. The vehicle is larger than the original Cobra coupe, offering improved comfort and practicality while maintaining a balanced 50:50 weight distribution.

Despite its increased dimensions, the coupe tips the scales at just 1,600 kilograms, or approximately 3,527 pounds. The expanded cabin also allows drivers up to six feet tall to fit comfortably, addressing one of the limitations often associated with classic sports car designs.

Exclusivity will remain a defining characteristic of the Cobra GT Coupe. AC Cars plans to build only 100 examples annually, with total production capped at 1,000 units. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.

Pricing starts at £234,300 before taxes for the naturally aspirated version, while the supercharged model carries a starting price of £256,300 before applicable taxes. With limited production, powerful Ford V8 performance and a design rooted in automotive history, the Cobra GT Coupe is positioned as a modern collector car that honors its famous predecessor while embracing contemporary expectations.
