Only 999 were sold to Hertz with only 50 painted in Sapphire.

When the special-edition 1966 Shelby GT350-H was introduced, the high-performance Mustang was an instant legend. The car was a rental only available through Hertz, and that is exactly what the "H" stands for in the name. Up on the virtual auction block is this incredible '66 Shelby GT350-H in rare Sapphire. In fact, only 999 of these cars were sold to Hertz, and only 50 of those were painted in the shade of Sapphire with gold striping.

Mostly unrestored and in original condition, the car was given one repaint in its factory Sapphire hue back in the '80s. All sheetmetal is original save for the left front fender that was replaced at some point over the past 50 years. This particular car was purchased from its long-term owner in Pennsylvania and then transported over to Scottsdale. The odometer reads 58,558 on the ticker, and it is believed to be accurate and original.

Common with many of the Hertz cars, the engine didn't age well and is now replaced with a date-coded 289cui HI-PO V8 engine mated to a newly installed Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. The original automatic transmission is included with the sale as well. The original Magnum 500 chrome wheels sit on all four corners and are wrapped with BFGoodrich radial rubber. In addition, the car received new rear leaf springs along with upper and lower control arms, front coil springs, and Koni shocks.

The Ford VIN was verified and matches the SFM number. Even more, the car is already listed in the SAAC Registry of Shelby GT350s. This particular Shelby is well-documented and in fantastic shape. Note that the mileage may vary due to the fact that the car is driven weekly.

This '66 Shelby GT350-H is up for bids and has a minimum bid of $85,000, but is estimated to sell somewhere between $115,000 and $145,000. If this Shelby would look perfect in your garage, go ahead and place your bid.
