The 2026 Ford Mustang drops its universal garage door opener but adds new paint, interior options, and a Fox Body-inspired package.
Ford’s seventh-generation Mustang enters its third model year with a mix of additions and deletions, highlighted by the removal of a feature once considered standard for modern convenience: the universal garage door opener.
According to sources familiar with the 2026 model-year update, the feature is no longer available on any trim. In prior years, it could be found on higher-end packages such as the EcoBoost Premium 201A High Package, was standard on the Mustang GT Premium, and bundled with the Dark Horse 700A Deluxe Package. For 2026, however, the opener disappears entirely.
Color choices also shift for the new model year. Intense Lime Yellow and Wimbledon White exit the lineup, replaced by Adriatic Blue Metallic and Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat. Ford further expands personalization options with new seatbelt choices, including Orange, Prime Blue, and Black with a red stripe, while Race Red carries over. The Dark Horse loses its exclusive Deep Indigo seatbelt option.

Spoiler configurations see adjustments as well. No convertible Mustangs come with a standard spoiler, though EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium fastbacks now offer an optional wedge spoiler. The Blade Decklid Spoiler is discontinued.
Inside, small but notable changes include black foot pedals on EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium trims. Meanwhile, the auto-dimming frameless rearview mirror has been replaced with a manual flip framed mirror on certain models, dialing back the tech slightly.
Balancing those deletions is the introduction of the FX Package, a nostalgic option drawing inspiration from the 1980s Fox Body Mustang. Highlights include plaid seat inserts and Oxford White exterior details, giving the latest pony car a retro edge.
While enthusiasts still await news of an RTR variant, the 2026 Mustang’s mix of heritage cues and modern updates shows Ford continues fine-tuning its iconic coupe.
