This Porsche 356-A Has Clocked More Than A Million Miles

Just a man and his car!

The Porsche 356 is a fun little car to drive, but it's probably not the first choice for many people about to head out on a long-distance road trip... let alone a million miles worth of road trips. But that's exactly the case with the Porsche 356-A and its owner, Lorenzo. Since purchasing the car 50 years ago, man and machine have surpassed the million-mile mark – that's about 40 times around Earth and two round trips from Earth to the Moon!

As you could expect from a car with that many miles, the video starts out with the Porsche briefly separated from its engine, but Lorenzo soon starts talking about his passion for speed and driving. Like most of us, he caught the bug early tinkering around on things and he ended up building a hand-made go-kart in his early teen years. After that, things only got faster and more expensive with road racing adventures through Europe and dune racing in the desert.

A serious accident – in a "super, duper, duper dune buggy" – left him on death's doorstep, but it was a plundering wife that is the saddest part of the story. But she didn't get his Porsche. Before the accident, he had tucked the car away at a friend's place to keep away from people and the elements. He still has the car today.

"I’ll get a call to visit a friend in another state, throw my bag in the car, and hit the road. At the very least I know it’ll always be a good time if I’m in my Porsche."

Over the years, it sounds like Lorenzo has owner quite a few Porsches, but laying claim to a million-mile Porsche 356 is something to be proud about.
