If you’ve dreamed of owning one, here’s your chance.

If you have been searching for a special vehicle to add to your collection, this one could be it. Skyway Classics is pleased to announce this 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Indy 500 pace car up for sale. 1986 was a joyous year for Corvette fans for two different reasons. The first was the return of the Corvette roadster. When Chevrolet announced the return in 1985, ‘Vette enthusiasts couldn’t have been happier. However, unlike the past models, the ’86 Corvette convertible cost an additional $5,000! This was a result of the C4’s different chassis and body structure than its predecessors. There was still plenty of reason to celebrate, as Chevy hadn’t offered a convertible option since 1975.

The second exciting piece of news in 1986 was that Corvette would pace the Indy 500 for the second time. All 1986 Corvette convertibles were designed to be pace car replicas and came with dealer or customer-applied decals for both doors. By the end of the year, 7,315 of the 35,109 ‘Vettes were convertibles; that’s just 20 percent. All of them were considered to be “pace cars” regardless of the color.

This 1986 example has a stunning white paint scheme with the Indy 500 Pace Car graphics on either side of the car. It’s also got a black convertible top, a rear luggage rack, dual exhaust system, and custom Mag wheels wrapped in blackwall performance tires. The bright red leather bucket seat interior contrasts the exterior beautifully. Cabin options include power seats, power windows, air conditioning, and AM/FM stereo radio with a Bose sound system. The woodgrain dashboard and center console elevate the interior to new levels with an elegant appeal. All aspects are well kept, clean, and nicely detailed.

This 1986 Chevrolet Corvette is powered by the standard 5.7-liter L98 V8 engine with upgraded aluminum cylinder heads. The result is reduced curb weight by 125 pounds and an added 5 horsepower to the engine with stainless steel headers and the dual-exhaust system simultaneously helping. This car comes with an automatic transmission with a flood-mounted shifter in the factory console. The factory engine compartment, which houses the heart and soul of this classic, is detailed well and very tidy.

This 1986 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car convertible will make an iconic addition to your garage. It looks great and plays the part too in the performance department. With a 5.6-second 0-60 mph time and a 14.9-second 0-100 mph time, this Corvette will put plenty of smiles on your face per mile. It’s the sports car that many dream of, and now is your chance to own one.
