Video: Concours-Winning 1953 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Superflow IV

One of the most advanced racing cars of its era.

The 2019 Pebble Beach Auctions, presented by Gooding & Company, will take place from Wednesday, August 14 through Saturday, August 17. The viewing days are Wednesday through Saturday, with the auction happening on Friday and Saturday. One of the vehicles to cross the auction block will be this stunning red 1953 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 Superflow IV. It is chassis #00128 and one of six competition cars built by the Italian automaker before it hit the brakes on factory-backed racing in the mid-1950s.

The video embedded below shows off the beautiful and elegant Alfa Romeo at every angle imaginable, with some driving scenes to boot. The clip also highlights the car’s features, like its retractable panoramic glass roof, detachable windows, rear-wheel spats, 3.5-liter twin-cam engine, vented rear brakes, and more. Just listen to the sound it makes when the car starts up and as it drives away; it’s exhilarating to say the least. The 1953 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Superflow IV may appear to be a small car, but it’s packing in the thrills department.

After the 1954 racing season, this 6C 3000 CM was given to Carrozzeria Pinin Farina who used the advanced chassis as a platform to build different show cars. The first version was unveiled at the 1956 Paris Auto Show. It received several revisions before reaching its final Superflow IV form. The finished product was shown at the 1960 Geneva Motor Show before being sold to an Alfa Romeo dealer in Colorado. The Superflow Series would act as the precursor for design cues that would be used on several Pininfarina-bodied production cars, like the Alfa Romeo Duetto.

The #00128 model was in the hands of American collectors for a number of years before joining the Peter Kaus Rosso Bianco Museum in Germany. At that time, the museum was home to the biggest sports car collection in the world with more than 200 vehicles on display. Kaus sold off the collection in 2005, and this Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 Superflow IV was acquired by a distinguished collector who restored the car to the T before showing it off at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

It’s no surprise that the Superflow IV won First in Class and The Vitesse – Elegance Trophy at Pebble Beach that year. The following year, the Alfa Romeo received Best of Show honors at the 2014 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy and Salon Prive. Now, the car is back to wow more crowds and bless us with its prowess at the 2019 Pebble Beach Auctions. One thing is for sure: it will be a memorable and remarkable sale.
