This 38-Mile 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT Is Essentially A Brand-New Fox Body

Some collector cars become valuable because they were fast. Others become important because they marked the end of an era. The 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT manages to do both, which is exactly why pristine examples have become increasingly difficult to ignore among modern muscle enthusiasts.

This particular black-over-Opal Grey Cobra stands out even in that rare company because the odometer reportedly shows just 38 original miles. Not 38,000. Thirty-eight.

That number alone changes the entire conversation around the car. Instead of simply being a well-preserved Fox-body Mustang, this Cobra feels more like an untouched historical artifact from one of the most important transitions in Ford performance history. When Ford introduced the redesigned SN95 Mustang for 1994, the Fox-body generation instantly became nostalgic for an entire generation of enthusiasts. At the same time, the 1993 Cobra represented the launch of Ford’s newly created Special Vehicle Team, or SVT, which would eventually produce some of the most respected high-performance Mustangs Ford ever built.

That combination makes the 1993 Cobra uniquely significant. It was simultaneously the final chapter of the Fox-body era and the beginning of Ford’s modern factory performance division.

Ford produced only 4,993 Cobra models for 1993, and survivors with ultra-low mileage have become increasingly scarce as values continue to rise. What makes this example especially fascinating is how untouched it appears to remain. The car reportedly retains its original black paint, original body panels, original tires, original warranty card, owner’s manual, Marti Report, and even its original window sticker.

Inside, the preservation continues. The Opal Grey leather interior reportedly still wears protective plastic on the seats, while factory details like the original AM/FM/CD stereo, HVAC controls, and factory shift knob remain remarkably intact. Even enthusiasts who normally prefer modified Mustangs would likely appreciate seeing a Fox-body preserved this carefully because it offers a snapshot of exactly what Ford’s first SVT Mustang looked and felt like when it sat on dealership floors in 1993.

Under the hood sits the original numbers-matching 5.0-liter High Output V8 paired with its original Borg-Warner T5 five-speed manual transmission. Cobra-specific upgrades included GT40-style cylinder heads, intake manifold, revised camshaft tuning, and suspension enhancements that elevated the Cobra beyond a standard 5.0 Mustang GT. Factory output was rated at 235 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, numbers that helped establish the Cobra as one of the most desirable performance Mustangs of its era.

Today, the appeal goes beyond horsepower figures alone. Cars like this resonate emotionally because they reconnect enthusiasts with a very specific moment in American performance history. The Fox-body Mustang represented affordable V8 performance for an entire generation, and the 1993 Cobra became the most refined and historically important version of that formula.

What makes this example especially compelling is that it hasn’t been heavily modified, raced, or restored into something different. Instead, it appears to have been preserved almost exactly as Ford intended. That kind of originality becomes harder to find every year, particularly among performance cars that were often driven aggressively or customized shortly after purchase.

For collectors, it’s difficult to ignore the historical importance attached to the first SVT Mustang. For enthusiasts who grew up idolizing Fox-body performance cars, seeing one this untouched feels almost surreal.

And with just 38 miles showing, this Cobra may be one of the closest things left to stepping into a Ford showroom in 1993. See it here.
