Supercharged 1991 AM General Humvee Hits the Market After Extensive $78K Frame-Off Build

A heavily reengineered 1991 AM General M998A1 Humvee is now attracting bidder interest after emerging from a full performance-focused transformation. The vehicle, originally built for military use, has been converted into a high-powered restomod blending battlefield durability with modern horsepower. Listed in Sylvania, Ohio, the truck has drawn thousands of views and is already seeing active bidding ahead of its Nov. 20 auction close.

The seller notes that the Humvee was purchased in 2017 as a stock example from Barrett-Jackson before undergoing a complete frame-off rebuild totaling roughly $78,000 in documented invoices. The most dramatic upgrade is a GM Performance LSA 6.2-liter supercharged V8, rated at 650 horsepower and paired with a Wicked Performance–built 6L80E six-speed automatic transmission. An AVA 242 transfer case, updated fuel system, and oversized cooling components round out the powertrain.

The chassis and body were sandblasted and coated before receiving a custom “Battle Worn War Bird” finish. Doors and a hardtop were added in place of the original soft setup, and the exterior features matching custom wheels and tires, LED lighting, an external cage, upgraded bumpers, and a winch. The military-grade suspension, aluminum body panels, CTIS system, blackout lighting, and 4WD platform remain part of the original equipment.

Inside, the Humvee departs from its utilitarian roots with air conditioning, heating, and a redesigned cabin featuring a custom dash, aircraft-style gauges, and marine-grade carpeting over full insulation. An Alpine touchscreen stereo with Bluetooth and Kicker speakers modernizes the infotainment setup, while LED lighting brightens both floor and roof areas.

The listing shows approximately 2,300 miles, though the seller notes mileage is not fully verified. Recent servicing has been completed, and the truck rides on 37-inch Kanati Trail Hog all-terrains. Some exterior patina and minor rust are noted, much of it preserved intentionally to fit the truck’s aesthetic.

Now offered on consignment with a clean Ohio title, this supercharged Humvee combines military hardware with high-performance engineering—creating a distinctive build for buyers seeking power, presence, and a story behind the steel. See it here.
