A fully restored 1966 Ford C-600 flatbed truck is scheduled to cross the auction block at Mecum’s 2026 Glendale event later this month, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a classic heavy-duty Ford that has largely escaped the spotlight over the decades.
While vintage Ford passenger cars and light-duty pickups frequently appear at collector car auctions, heavy-duty commercial trucks like the C-600 are far less common. Many of these workhorses were used extensively and not preserved in the same way as their smaller counterparts. As a result, surviving examples in restored condition tend to draw attention when they surface.
This particular C-600 underwent a restoration in 2015 and has since received a series of thoughtful updates. Among the most notable additions is a custom 12-foot flatbed, enhancing both its functionality and visual presence. The truck appears well-suited for hauling duties, whether transporting equipment or even another classic vehicle to shows.
Exterior upgrades include LED lighting and halo-style headlights, blending modern visibility with vintage styling. Dual 100-gallon aluminum fuel tanks provide extended range, while a two-inch receiver hitch and trailer wiring connector add towing capability. Functional dual exhaust stacks capped with six-inch chrome elbows and mini glass packs contribute to the truck’s bold look and likely deliver a fitting soundtrack.
Under the hood sits a naturally aspirated Ford 330 cubic-inch V8 paired with an NP435 four-speed manual transmission and an Eaton two-speed rear axle equipped with a new shift motor. The original oil bath air cleaner remains in place, while modern touches include a 12-volt electric fuel pump and a VIAIR 12-volt air compressor mounted beneath the bed to power the air horn and courtesy outlet.
The truck retains classic features such as manual steering and vacuum-boosted drum brakes, preserving its period character. Whether put back to work or reserved for weekend cruises and car shows, this 1966 Ford C-600 stands as a distinctive piece of Ford’s commercial vehicle history.
