A freshly updated classic Beetle featuring a 1.6L engine and modern upgrades heads to market with vintage charm intact.
A well-preserved and tastefully upgraded 1963 Volkswagen Beetle is now available for purchase through Hagerty Marketplace, offering collectors and enthusiasts a turn-key classic with subtle performance improvements and modern usability.

This particular Beetle, originally equipped with a 1200cc engine, now houses an upgraded 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four producing an estimated 60 horsepower. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the powertrain gives this beloved icon a bit more zip while maintaining its unmistakable charm and rear-wheel-drive layout.

Finished in a timeless beige over a reupholstered gray interior, the car reflects careful attention to detail throughout its recent refurbishment. Notable updates include a new engine and transmission, fresh paint, a reworked interior, and multiple mechanical upgrades. Key highlights include a new clutch and clutch cable, new fuel pump and fuel lines, and updated window weatherstripping.

The car also boasts subtle creature comforts not originally found on the 1963 model. A Bluetooth-capable stereo system has been installed—pre-wired for rear speakers—along with functional roof and trunk luggage racks for added practicality and period flair. Inside, a wicker parcel shelf below the dashboard complements the classic aesthetic, while a VDO 80-mph speedometer and matching fuel gauge retain the original vibe.

Riding on 15-inch wheels wrapped in Nankang tires up front and Marshal tires in the rear, this Beetle offers both visual appeal and roadworthy performance. Though a few paint chips and a non-functional driver’s window crank are noted, the car remains a strong example of a thoughtfully restored driver-quality Beetle.
Owned by a Missouri-based enthusiast since 2020, this 1963 Beetle embodies the enduring legacy of the people’s car—now updated for a new generation of drivers. See it here.
