A 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT with exceptional provenance and originality has surfaced on the collector car market following a remarkable 38-year stint with a single U.S. owner.
Chassis No. 01776, a factory-built M-Series model, was completed on March 23, 1971, and originally delivered in Blu Dino Metallizzato over Beige as a left-hand drive, European-spec vehicle. Only approximately 3,500 examples of the 246 GT were produced during its five-year run, with the M-Series distinguished by five-bolt wheels, seat-mounted headrests, and steel body panels with an aluminum hood.
According to a comprehensive report by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, the Dino was delivered new to official Ferrari dealer Motor S.a.s. in Rome before being sold to its first owner, Alberto Sarno. It was exported to the United States by 1977, at which point it received a refinish in the current red over black combination.
In 1987, the car entered the hands of a New York-based enthusiast who maintained ownership for nearly four decades. Records supporting this continuous ownership include registration documents, historian reports, and correspondence from noted Dino expert Matthias Bartz.
Recent mechanical work completed in 2025 includes a distributor rebuild, installation of an electric fuel pump, water pump replacement, and new Michelin XWX tires. Additional attention was given to fluids, air filters, and battery replacement. The car has covered roughly 200 kilometers since this servicing, helping ensure its drivability.
