A scarce 1971 Ford Bronco fitted with a Four Wheel Camper conversion is offered without reserve on Hagerty Marketplace.
A 1971 Ford Bronco equipped with a period Four Wheel Camper conversion is now listed without reserve on Hagerty Marketplace, giving collectors and overlanding enthusiasts a chance to acquire one of the earliest SUV-based adventure rigs. The vehicle represents a distinctive chapter in first-generation Bronco history, combining Ford’s popular U15 wagon platform with an aftermarket camper package designed for remote travel long before overlanding became mainstream.

The Colorado-built Four Wheel Camper units were not factory options but dealer-installed conversions, evolving throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s into lightweight pop-up systems that replaced the Bronco’s hardtop. By 1971, the design featured fabric walls, rear entry, and a suite of amenities such as a couch, over-cab bed, removable table, storage cabinets, sink, cooler and dual-burner stove. Experts believe fewer than 100 examples were produced, with only a small number surviving. One specialist reportedly located just 12 units in the past decade, with four deemed usable.

This Bronco retains its factory Prairie Yellow finish along with a 302-cubic-inch V8 and three-speed manual transmission. It also carries a dual-range transfer case, manual locking hubs and four-wheel drum brakes, preserving the original off-road capability. The odometer shows fewer than 66,300 miles, and the Data Plate confirms its U152 heavy-duty specification, 3.50 limited-slip axle and July 1971 build date at the Michigan Truck Plant.

Sympathetic upgrades include 15-inch aluminum wheels, 31×10.5 BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires, chrome bumpers, auxiliary gauges, a center console, and a Blaupunkt stereo. Cosmetic imperfections are noted, including paint fade, fender and door holes, chips, interior blemishes and floorboard corrosion.

The listing is represented in Georgia by a Broad Arrow Specialist, who will handle the transaction on behalf of the seller. With its combination of rarity, originality and period-correct camper equipment, the Bronco offers a compelling opportunity for collectors seeking an early forerunner of today’s overlanding movement.
