Low-mileage V-code 1970 Plymouth GTX with original 440 Six-Barrel engine and rare factory options hits the market.

A remarkably preserved 1970 Plymouth GTX 440 Six-Barrel has surfaced, offering muscle car collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a numbers-matching example of one of Mopar’s most exclusive performance coupes.

Finished in its original Rallye Red with a white Rallye side stripe and showing just 40,415 miles, this GTX represents a high-performance evolution of Plymouth’s “gentleman’s muscle car.” With only 328 V-code GTXs equipped with an automatic transmission produced for 1970, this car ranks among the rarest of the breed.

At its heart is the formidable 440 cubic-inch V8 with three two-barrel carburetors, known as the “Six-Barrel” setup. Rated at 390 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, the engine is paired with a TorqueFlite A727 three-speed automatic transmission, offering explosive acceleration in a surprisingly refined package. According to the GTX Registry, both the engine and transmission are numbers-matching.

This hardtop coupe is loaded with factory options, including the now-iconic Air Grabber hood (N96), which delivered cold air directly to the engine via a vacuum-controlled intake system. Other highlights include a “Tic-Toc-Tach” (tachometer and clock combo), bucket seats, console, and Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in period-correct Goodyear Polyglas G70-14 tires.

The data plate confirms a host of desirable features: AM radio with 8-track player, power front disc brakes, map lights, dual exhaust with chrome tips, and premium black vinyl upholstery with patterned inserts. Built on January 20, 1970, at Chrysler’s Los Angeles plant, the car carries chassis number RS23V0E130523.

While overshadowed in sales by its sibling, the more affordable Road Runner, the GTX was built for enthusiasts seeking muscle car power without sacrificing comfort. With its documented rarity, well-preserved condition, and factory authenticity, this example is expected to draw strong attention among collectors. See it here.
