A 1987 Chevrolet El Camino Choo Choo SS has been reimagined with modern performance upgrades and refreshed styling, reflecting a growing trend of blending classic American design with contemporary engineering.

Originally part of Chevrolet’s long-running coupe utility lineup, the El Camino occupies a unique space between passenger car and pickup. This particular example has undergone extensive modifications, beginning with a major powertrain overhaul completed in 2020. At the center of the build is a 6.2-liter LS3 crate V8, paired with a 200R4 automatic transmission. The setup brings significantly more power and modern reliability compared to the vehicle’s original configuration.
Performance upgrades extend beyond the engine. The vehicle is equipped with a QA1 coilover suspension system designed to improve handling and ride quality. Additional enhancements include tubular front control arms and a Holley intake manifold, supporting both performance and durability.
Following its acquisition in 2025, the current owner carried out further updates aimed at both functionality and appearance. The braking system was upgraded with Wilwood components, while the front and rear glass were replaced. Bodywork was also completed, followed by a refinish in black accented with white graphics, giving the El Camino a more aggressive and updated look.

The exterior is complemented by American Racing Torq Thrust wheels, a raised cowl hood, and a tonneau cover over the bed, maintaining the vehicle’s signature blend of utility and style.

Inside, the cabin features gray vinyl bucket seats and a center console, along with convenience features such as power windows, power locks, and air conditioning. An aftermarket sound system has also been installed, adding modern entertainment capability to the classic interior layout.

With approximately 4,300 miles reported, this modified El Camino represents a carefully updated version of a late-era model. Offered on consignment in Oregon with build records and a clean Colorado title, the vehicle highlights how classic platforms continue to evolve through modern customization while retaining their original character.
