Originally introduced in the early 1970s, the Datsun 620 played a key role in establishing the compact pickup truck segment in North America. Arriving at a time of rising fuel prices and shifting consumer preferences, the model offered a smaller, more affordable alternative to traditional full-size American trucks. Alongside competitors like the Toyota Hilux and Chevrolet LUV, it helped reshape the market by emphasizing efficiency and practicality.
The 620 succeeded earlier Datsun truck models and brought a combination of updated styling and mechanical improvements. Its distinctive “Bullet Side” body design gave it a recognizable profile, while a range of configurations and incremental upgrades broadened its appeal.
