A twin-turbo, all-wheel-drive BMW wagon with a third pedal sounds like something an enthusiast forum invented to torture itself. It was real, though, and this 2008 BMW 535xi Sports Wagon is live right now on Bring a Trailer with a six-speed manual, a bid of $6,000 as of Monday morning, and the auction scheduled to end Thursday, October 22.

The specification is the whole story here. For 2008 through 2010, BMW sold the E61 535xi Touring in North America with a choice of transmissions, pairing the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six (rated at 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque) with a six-speed stick and xDrive all-wheel drive. Almost nobody ticked that box. The Autopian found estimates ranging from fewer than 40 to under 300 cars, and noted that BMW never confirmed a number. An enthusiast tally on 5Series.net counts 328 manual E61s from the 2008-2010 facelift years across every body style and trim in North America, so the wagon version is only a slice of that. Nobody has an official figure, but every credible count lands in the hundreds at most.

What this one has

This example is finished in Titanium Silver Metallic over black Dakota leather and was ordered with the Sport and Premium packages. The Sport package adds Shadowline trim. The listing also notes a sunroof, heated power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights with washers, 18-inch Style 124 wheels, roof rails, and iDrive with navigation. It is not a flashy spec, which is exactly why it appeals. It is a quiet silver wagon that happens to have the rarest drivetrain BMW offered in the body style.

The car shows 147,000 miles, and the seller, who bought it in 2012, has put on roughly 111,000 of them. It is being sold from Massachusetts with a clean title in the seller's name. Recent service is substantial: Vargas Turbos wastegate pivots, walnut-blasted intake valves, a new clutch and flywheel, and replacement front and rear main seals, among other work. Those are the right things to have done on an N54, which is known for its demands. The listing also discloses a Carfax entry for an accident in March 2018, plus a May 2025 entry noting damage, with the rear bumper support replaced. Anyone bidding should read that section and the photos closely.

Why it matters

The BMW wagon with a manual has a following for the same reason the V10 M5 Touring and other family-hauler-with-attitude cars do: automakers rarely build them, and almost no buyers chose them. If you like the idea of a manual BMW with room for the dog, it also pairs nicely with the rare manual M6 and the E60 M5 V10 with a manual we covered earlier. For another take on a practical body style with an unusual factory spec, see this turbodiesel 4MATIC Mercedes wagon.

At $6,000 the bidding is still early, and the final number will depend on how many people notice that a 300-horsepower, all-wheel-drive, three-pedal wagon is on offer. Full photos, the seller's service records, and the comment thread are on the original Bring a Trailer listing.
