Classic C1 styling meets modern LS3 power and six-speed performance in this award-winning California build.
The Chevrolet Corvette’s first generation (1953–62) evolved from stylish showpiece to genuine American sports car in less than a decade. By 1961, it carried both the legacy of the early C1s and hints of the revolutionary C2 design just around the corner, with a cleaned-up grille and quad taillights that previewed the Sting Ray era.

One particular 1961 example now listed on Hagerty Marketplace takes that legacy and blends it with modern engineering. The California-based car underwent a complete body-off restoration, where nearly every component was rebuilt, replaced, or upgraded. At its heart lies a 6.2-liter Chevrolet LS3 E-ROD V8, producing 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. Power routes through a Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission and into a Dana 36 rear differential with 3.73 gears.

The chassis comes from Newman Car Creations, fitted with C4 Corvette suspension, Ridetech adjustable shocks, and rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping power is handled by C5 Z06 front brakes and C4 rears with drilled and slotted rotors. The car rides on polished 17-inch C5 wheels wrapped in Falken performance tires.

Cosmetically, the roadster keeps its stock cues, refinished in DuPont Blue with a ceramic coating and fitted with a Stayfast convertible top. Inside, custom bucket seats provide added legroom, while modern amenities include power windows, Vintage Air climate control, Bluetooth audio, and upgraded gauges by Redline Gauge Works.

According to the seller, only 1,083 miles have been added since the restoration was completed. The Corvette has earned multiple Best in Show and Best in Class awards, underscoring its appeal as both a collector’s piece and a true driver’s car. See it here.
