A low-mileage 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is attracting early interest as it heads to auction in North Carolina, highlighting continued demand for well-preserved examples of the iconic air-cooled sports car.

The vehicle, showing approximately 23,800 miles, is currently listed with a top bid of $22,500 and is scheduled to close on April 21. Located in Charlotte, the car has already garnered more than 2,100 views and multiple bids, signaling strong attention from enthusiasts and collectors alike. It will also be displayed publicly on April 11 during an automotive event at the Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord.
The 1987 model year represents a key stage in the evolution of the Porsche 911, as the long-running G-body platform reached a refined level of performance and usability. The Targa variant, known for its distinctive roll bar and removable roof panel, offers an open-air driving experience while maintaining the structural identity of the coupe.

Power comes from a 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission introduced during this era. The drivetrain is widely regarded for its balance of durability and improved drivability, aided by updated engine management systems. The car’s galvanized body construction and upgraded interior features further reflect the model’s maturity at this stage.
Originally delivered to a dealership in Minnesota, the car has since passed through several states, including Texas and Florida, before arriving in North Carolina. It is finished in Guards Red with a black Targa top and black leather interior, maintaining a classic factory-correct appearance.

The vehicle has received select upgrades, including modernized air conditioning components and an updated infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. Recent maintenance includes work on the shifter and steering components, along with additional servicing documented over the past two years.
Offered with original documentation, service records, and a clean vehicle history report, the Targa presents a well-documented example of a late-era Carrera 3.2, combining originality with thoughtful updates. See it here.
