A distinctive Jaguar-powered Kougar Sports roadster is attracting attention ahead of an online auction, showcasing a blend of vintage British sports car styling and classic Jaguar engineering.

The right-hand-drive roadster, currently bidding at $16,000 with several days remaining in the auction, is a fiberglass-bodied example believed to have been assembled in the early 1970s using Jaguar mechanical components. Finished in red and mounted on a tubular steel chassis, the car reflects the lightweight sports car philosophy that influenced many British specialty builders during that era.

The Kougar Sports model traces its origins to English designer Rick Stevens, who developed the concept during the 1970s. Stevens drew inspiration from post-war British competition cars such as the Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica and the Healey Silverstone. The design paired that classic racing-inspired appearance with running gear sourced from Jaguar S-Type saloons.

After initially developing an aluminum-bodied prototype in partnership with Dick Crosthwaite and John Gardiner in 1976, Stevens later introduced a fiberglass-bodied production version through his Sussex-based company. The car featured a proprietary tube-frame chassis and was sold both as a fully assembled vehicle and as a kit. Production continued through two generations before the company changed ownership in 1990.

This particular example features several period-inspired details including a single-piece windshield, dual side mirrors, full fenders and a Le Mans-style fuel filler. The louvered hood incorporates a clearance bulge on the right side and is secured with leather straps. Exposed side exhaust piping runs along the body and is protected by a perforated heat shield before exiting behind the left rear wheel.

Power comes from a Jaguar 3.8-liter dual overhead cam inline-six engine equipped with dual SU carburetors. The engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission featuring an overdrive unit that sends power to the rear wheels. An oil change was completed in May 2025 as part of recent maintenance.

The roadster rides on 15-inch Revolution wheels with body-color centers wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The chassis features independent suspension, including a dual-shock setup at the rear, while braking is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units.

Inside, the right-hand-drive cockpit seats two occupants in beige leather upholstery accented with red piping. The cabin includes shoulder belts for both seats and coco-style floor mats. A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel sits ahead of a set of Smiths gauges, including a 140-mph speedometer, a 6,500-rpm tachometer and auxiliary gauges monitoring engine functions.

The five-digit odometer currently shows 99,000 miles, though total mileage is unknown. The steering column bushing was replaced in May 2025.

The car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered in Boca Raton, Florida, with an Indiana title identifying the vehicle as a 1973 Kougar.
